General Assembly 20th June 2022

The General Assembly 2022 was held this year at the V8 Event Hotel in Stuttgart. In addition to top-class presentations and far-reaching decisions, neither networking nor physical well-being was neglected. Only the hot summer day could get uneasy to you.

About

I. Common part of the GA

We would like to thank all participants for their time and effort to participate personally on the GA. We would also like to thank all the speakers, some had to travel under difficult conditions, for their excellent presentations and the very intensive Q&As.

Short summary common part:

The individual presentations gave exciting and interesting aspects from different automotive areas.

  • Carmunication now have several active projects to support the restart to advance the topics of Knowledge hub (carmupedia), benchmark and public relation.
  • In the area of in-vehicle data access, there has been further, albeit not huge, progress with the supporting vehicle manufacturers. Especially for the B2B2C business, consent management was significantly improved. In near future (~ this decade) almost every new car will be factory connected and OEM systems will be the primary data source.
  • In EU legislation, a very important decision will soon be made with the comprehensive data act. There will be a separate version for the automotive sector. Far-reaching effects are to be expected

The first block of speeches dealt with association-specific topics and highlighted current projects.

THE NEW CARMUNICATION VISION

In the first part Walter Birner (carmunication) made an introduction and a short retrospective about the topics since the last GA. Especially the change of strategy to the future konwledge hub was emphasised. In the following part, the current vision of Carmunication (created by Michael and Patrick) was presented and explained.

CARMUNICATION 2.0

Alfred Mayer (carmunication) first gave an overview of the current projects, their planning status and the methodological approach in the two workshops. Furthermore, Carmupedia was presented live. The individual features were discussed in detail with the participants. The content to be created was identified as an important point. Together, the active participation of the members was considered necessary. The principle is: From the members to the members.

CARMUNICATION – PR & PUBLIC POSITIONING

Another part of the present projects is a PR-campaign with the objectives to increase the perceiving of carmunication in the market and also the number of members. Stéphane Freitas from ‚The moblizzers‘ detailed the strategy and presented the new Lighthouse motto.

After a very much enjoyed networking break, the second thematic block was dedicated to the topic:

LIVE DATA FROM VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS.

The geotab strategy was explained from Christoph Ludewig. Geotab forecasts that in near future (~ this decade) almost every new car will be factory connected and OEM systems will be the primary data source. The business case telematics for fleet will not be OEMs core. Today Geotab supports a huge amount of connected fleet vehicles and has established some interesting features for predicitve maintenance and data shrinking.

Kevin Valdek from ‚high mobility‘ showed the development of the availability of eligible OEM data, especially for very young vehicles (less than 3 years old). Significant progress has been made in the B2B2C area of consent management. An interesting aspect was the role of GDPR and data processing in the B2B and B2B2C scenarios. Further highlights were data providing, standardization, and the Android AutomotiveOS  approach.

After the 2nd networking break various topics took up the following thematic area.

The political landscape for online vehicle data in respect of the three EU data act options with its advantages, disadvantages and pit falls was explained by Ronan McDonagh from FIEGIEFA.

The perspective from Microsoft on the IAM was provided by Max Enno Kraft. He gave an overview over an huge technolological portofolio and cooperations in very different areas, especially for mobility topics. Microsoft statemeent is: ‚the Software defined Vehicle is the key element for future mobility‘. Very interesting was the role of Microsoft within the gaia-x project and the project ‚Access to car data for implementation of Zero-Emission-Zones‘.

Last but not least, Andreas Huber from asDarts, leads us to a walk through the world of in-vehicle event driven data (EDR) and how to retrieve. EDR data are a set of data generate by the vehicle  before, during and after a crash occurs. Imported to know is, that an EU act (EU general safety regulation) will come into force in 2022 in in combination with a type approval.

The common part ended with a short wrap up from Walter and an invitation for the dinner.
