Details

What is QNX for Safety?
QNX OS for Safety is based on BlackBerry‘s QNX Neutrino safe real-time operating system (RTOS) and is a fully POSIX-compliant (POSIX “portable operating system interface”), open standards-based operating system that embedded developers can use to build safety-critical systems. It is certified to ISO 26262 ASIL D, the highest functional safety standard in the automotive industry.

BlackBerry’s pedigree in safety, security, and continued innovation has led to the use of its QNX technology in production programmes with 45 different OEMs, 7/7 of the top Tier 1s and over 215 million vehicles worldwide.

With a pre-certified, scalable microkernel RTOS, the solution enables automotive manufacturers and embedded software developers in a variety of industries to accelerate their development times and reduce the cost of transferring projects from the development and test phase to production.

Supplement on the subject of open-source
Cariad releases parts of its operating system
Volkswagen’s software subsidiary Cariad is joining the Eclipse Foundation open-source community – and will release code from its operating system and automotive cloud.
By 2030, up to 40 million of the company’s cars will be based on the scalable software platform, which includes the VW.OS operating system and the VW.AC automotive cloud.
To drive the development of common standards around the software-defined vehicle, the Wolfsburg-based company has joined the open source community Eclipse Foundation through its subsidiary Cariad.

Car manufacturers are part of the open-source community
The Eclipse Foundation has existed since 2004 and organises the open source projects of its member companies. From the automotive industry, BMW, Continental, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and ZF, among others, are involved.
